Geographical, geopolitical, and economic limitations are often the reason why the contents of these archives are not brought to light and valued for what they can represent.
BIAN is proposed as a new tool offered to allow the inspection and repair of films in various formats (from 8mm to 35mm) at the storage site.
BIAN is a simple, modular device. It resembles a suitcase, and inside it holds all the components and tools needed to carry out both tactile and visual inspection — assessing the physical condition as well as the content of the films under evaluation.
It comes equipped with an illuminating surface for viewing the contents. It can be equipped with a reflective lighting system with a magnifying lens for more accurate visual analysis of the film’s state of preservation.
The basic version of BIAN features two spoked handwheels with a foldable handle, designed for maximum simplicity of purely manual movement control. It operates in both directions and supports horizontal film travel, whether the film is on a core, a reel, or neither.
The extended version of BIAN integrates manual control with electronic control of a set of motors with adjustable assistance for winding/unwinding movement.
BIAN can be powered by the mains but also by a power bank, providing greater operational independence when no power supply is available.
With BIAN, it will be possible to rediscover memories and contents otherwise destined for oblivion.
